Do Grand Rapids parents like olives a lot? Because both Olivia and Oliver made the list in 2017, though Oliver did not make an appearance the list in 2016. Hazel was another addition to the 2017 list. Is hazel even a real color? Regardless, it was a popular name in Grand Rapids. How did Grand Rapids stack up to the rest of the nation? According to Time Magazine, these are the top baby names of 2017 in the United States.

Girl names in 2017:

  1. Sophia
  2. Olivia
  3. Emma
  4. Ava
  5. Isabella
  6. Mia
  7. Aria
  8. Riley
  9. Zoe
  10. Amelia

Boy names in 2017:

  1. Jackson
  2. Liam
  3. Noah
  4. Aiden
  5. Lucas
  6. Caden
  7. Grayson
  8. Mason
  9. Elijah
  10. Logan

So Olivia and Liam are still immensely popular, they just don’t take the top spot in the United States like they do in Grand Rapids. Interestingly enough, while Sophia made both 2017 lists, Jackson was only popular in the rest of the country. I wonder what Michigan has against the name Jackson…
