Shrimp is promoting its event, the East Side Club Kid Art Gala at The Avenue Cafe on September 23, from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. We all love The Avenue. Who wouldn’t love the best venue in Lansing, sandwiched between Triple Goddess and a Chinese restaurant, Asian Gourmet. While every night at The Avenue is great, this night will be exactly what your heart desires. With sultry, sexy burlesque performances, local Michigan artists, drag shows, and local, live music, it is destined to be a uniquely alluring night. The East Side Club Kid Art Gala will be an enchanting night you won’t forget. Find The Avenue at 2021 E Michigan Ave, Lansing, Michigan, 48912. Doors are at 8 p.m. and there is a $5 suggested donation.
The East Side Club Kid Art Gala
Vendors from the greater Lansing area will be selling merchandise, art, and other goods. This is a great way to support your local artists and encourage art in the community. True to the almost Halloween spirit, this is also a costume contest! Dress up in your favorite outfit. Debut your Halloween costume over a month early so you can iron out the kinks. Dress in your most lavish costume. Cosplay. Recycle last year’s outfit. As long as you have the “club kid” spirit, it doesn’t matter what you come dressed as. Think the “club kid” aesthetic of Michael Alig and James St. James, and bring the attitude with the costume. It’s a come-as-you-are, welcoming event. In true Party Monster style, there will also be flawless drag performances and a DJ. But it’s not all fun and games. Your donation will go to a good cause! Salus Center Organizer Phiwa Langeni said,
The proceeds from this particular event will go toward gender-affirming clothing items (binders, bras, etc.) for those in the community who need them. This will be ready in time for our first clothing swap event on Tuesday, November 7.”
The Facebook event page has a full list of performers. Shrimp is the main promotion machine for the event.
Salus is a LGBTQ resource and community center. Their website says, “Salus is the Latin word whose meaning has to do with the wholeness and well-being,” which is what they hope the center will represent. The show is hosted by Salus, pronounced as “solace,” which strives to help the local Lansing LGBTQ community. Their mission is clear.
The purpose of Salus Center is to create space for learning, teaching, community, support, and service. In addition to being a place where folk can gather a variety of resources, Salus Center is a gathering place where everyone is welcome, necessary, and essential to/for the whole.”
They are centered around community and wellness, especially for LGBTQ and marginalized communities. Everything will be going to a good cause. Find Salus at 624 E Michigan Ave, Lansing, Michigan. If you want to donate to Salus, donate here. The Salus Center website and Facebook (like to show your support!) will have all the information you need.
This event is 21+ and the doors are open at 8 p.m. Have fun!
